Team of Maize USD 266 educators exploring AI options for the district’s future

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a major topic in education, and schools across the country are exploring what it could mean for teaching and learning as more students and educators use it. At Maize USD 266, an AI Pilot Group is examining AI in schools to guide this work thoughtfully.

The team includes one representative educator from each school, along with district technology staff members and professional learning leaders. They are exploring AI tools, reviewing how these tools could be used ethically and safely, and helping shape a draft district AI policy. The goal is for the team to gather feedback from multiple stakeholder groups and to provide recommendations to the Maize Board of Education about which tools the district may support.

If a tool is adopted in the future, its use would remain optional, and the district would provide technology support and professional learning.

No AI tools are being required or broadly implemented at this time. This current work is about learning, listening, and making thoughtful decisions that align with district values. Stay tuned for additional updates as this student-centered process continues.
